"Dam 999" banned in Tamil Nadu

"Dam 999" is a film that is based on the controversy between the State of Tamilnadu and Kerala over the Mullai Periyar dam. The state fears that the release of such a film may cause political unrest in Tamilnadu.

The film waas supposed to be released on the 25th of November 2011 but was being postponed due to unavoidable reasons. The Tamil Nadu government gave permission for the screening a day ago, but changed their minds again today. Sohan Roy, the director and producer of "Dam 999" filed a complaint saying that the film was released everywhere but in Tamilnadu, so the court should allow for release here too. The court has not taken that into heed as they say that an entire state's well being is more important to them than an individual's wish.

Tamil "Vishwaroopam" in Hyderabad!

Kamal Haasan's 'Vishwaroopam" has been opted out of release in Tamil Nadu due to court orders. Kollywood, the home of the legendary Kamal Haasan is unlucky enough to miss this revolutionary film of his.

A small ounce of comfort for the Tamil speaking audience would be that the Tamil version of "Vishwaroopam" did get released today! Not in Kollywood though, far away in the city of Hyderabad Prasad Theater in Hyderabad has taken up the bold move of releasing the Tamil version in a state which isn't Tamil Nadu. We hope that such a move might in turn encourage the court to allow the release here too.
